While having someone invest in your artistic skills is undoubtedly validating, I've learned that not every commission sparks joy. In the early days, I found myself tackling every project that came my way, be it sci-fi warriors or a space marines. It is incredible that this joint project took 2 years to see the light.</p><p style="text-align: left;">The genesis of the project can be seen <a href="http://gimnir.blogspot.com/2021/02/warhammer-teutogen-guard-concept.html" target="_blank">HERE</a>.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMGIMToBgH6bnyfeUVxxnY5QOqiwMqOcjK-a59SqmqVMmCZfaJ3EyVe4z0Ro1qgdsbyNPetoapcrE158gdeiludGoMdsxDnLYzgU-pnDOoBI6RC9U8Fm7A6OsZhd7u9bx1VTdCiIbnJRYUC0mlFJfO5nq8qgsyQJy6M5yAGxdjsWuNF3fNIE_O9lToYw/s3040/IMG_1679.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3040" height="636" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMGIMToBgH6bnyfeUVxxnY5QOqiwMqOcjK-a59SqmqVMmCZfaJ3EyVe4z0Ro1qgdsbyNPetoapcrE158gdeiludGoMdsxDnLYzgU-pnDOoBI6RC9U8Fm7A6OsZhd7u9bx1VTdCiIbnJRYUC0mlFJfO5nq8qgsyQJy6M5yAGxdjsWuNF3fNIE_O9lToYw/w640-h636/IMG_1679.jpeg" width="640" /></a></div><br /><p style="text-align: left;">If you want to see more work in progress process you can see it <a href="http://gimnir.blogspot.com/2021/02/warhammer-teutogen-guard-concept.html" target="_blank">HERE</a>.</p><h2 style="text-align: left;"><br /></h2><h2 style="text-align: left;">How the project started:</h2><p style="text-align: left;">The project started as a way of sharing the love for the hobby with a very good friend. I started the concept, came about with a colour scheme, painted a couple of models with him to coach him into improving his miniature painting and in the meantime having an awesome time.</p><p style="text-align: left;">In the picture below you will see arrows pointing at the figures I painted for him to act as a reference. </p><p style="text-align: left;">The standard bearer, the high priest of Ulric Emil Valgeir and one rank and file teutogen guard were fully painted by me as they were the most complex pieces and would be the miniatures drawing the most attention. As a get together painting day, I showed him how I paint faces -you can see the sample face at the right of the picture.</p><p style="text-align: left;">Once he had the references he would be flying!</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEisR0hmEOHW1lSPsvvl3vYhEi2z8SW662-eLyDYv3IXKIN2kOjJ2FYtAev10gZSXBFC0jue52EDVoJkId3sgRP6VVlU7HA9Wd7n8V_ZS1djlJWnLdqJz9q4jt1tBj_ao-oNe9SkjVDOin9JoLuJrKdz0bovj4whpPyX6A2SCzyVq_okUqrozBCOXBaWFg/s1220/Screenshot%202023-03-19%20at%2016.41.09.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="678" data-original-width="1220" height="356" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEisR0hmEOHW1lSPsvvl3vYhEi2z8SW662-eLyDYv3IXKIN2kOjJ2FYtAev10gZSXBFC0jue52EDVoJkId3sgRP6VVlU7HA9Wd7n8V_ZS1djlJWnLdqJz9q4jt1tBj_ao-oNe9SkjVDOin9JoLuJrKdz0bovj4whpPyX6A2SCzyVq_okUqrozBCOXBaWFg/w640-h356/Screenshot%202023-03-19%20at%2016.41.09.png" width="640" /></a></div><br /><p style="text-align: left;">Something I didn't envisioned is that the project would take this long to see the day of light , 2 years!</p><p style="text-align: left;">On the other hand, my friend has done a fantastic job and he has improved his miniature painting a great deal. I can say with confidence that this project saw him levelling up as painter.</p><p style="text-align: left;">If you are reading me: WELL DONE!!! I hope you keep the momentum going 😊</p><p style="text-align: left;">We had so much fun having this joint project done that we are now going to develop another one, this time a Vampire Counts unit !</p><h2 style="text-align: left;">Teutogen Guard in all its glory:</h2><div class="separator" style="clear: both; Why keeping a blog alive instead of just posting my work in the likes of Instagram, Facebook or YouTube?<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="font-size: medium; font-weight: 400; margin: 0cm; text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: times;"><br /></span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="font-size: medium; font-weight: 400; margin: 0cm; text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: times;">This is a difficult question to answer as this blog was born to be a personal happy diary of my progress and a vehicle to allow me to express myself personally and artistically while at the same time connecting with other hobbyists.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="font-size: medium; font-weight: 400; margin: 0cm; text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: times;"><br /></span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="font-size: medium; font-weight: 400; margin: 0cm; text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: times;">The raise of social media has revolutionised our little hobby corner and how we share our art with each other.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="font-size: medium; font-weight: 400; margin: 0cm; text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: times;"><br /></span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="font-size: medium; font-weight: 400; margin: 0cm; text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: times;">When I look at the likes of Instagram or Facebook, I must give credit when credit is due: it is incredibly easy to share any content in the platforms, and connecting with other creators is now as easy as double tapping a screen.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="font-size: medium; font-weight: 400; margin: 0cm; text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: times;"><br /></span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="font-size: medium; font-weight: 400; margin: 0cm; text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: times;">On the other hand, the use of these platforms comes with big flaws that make them very unattractive to make them my "hobby corner". <o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="font-size: medium; font-weight: 400; margin: 0cm; text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: times;"><br /></span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="font-size: medium; font-weight: 400; margin: 0cm; text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: times;">Some of these reasons are things like the current trend of pushing short format videos like Reels (Instagram) or Shorts (YouTube) which pretty much fit the criteria of mindless entertainment.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="font-size: medium; font-weight: 400; margin: 0cm; text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: times;">For the likes of Instagram, I have experienced an atrocious home feed with almost 50% of the content in it being either reels with no connection to the hobby or advertisement of all sorts.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="font-size: medium; font-weight: 400; margin: 0cm; text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: times;"><br /></span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="font-size: medium; font-weight: 400; margin: 0cm; text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: times;">But I promise this is not a post about the pitfalls of social media… Rant over.<o:p></o:p></span></p><h3 style="text-align: left;"><p class="MsoNormal" style="font-size: medium; font-weight: 400; margin: 0cm;"><span style="font-family: times;">Another thing that I noticed is that a lot of the blogs I used to follow have now ceased to publish new content...which is a shame!<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="font-size: medium; font-weight: 400; margin: 0cm;"><span style="font-family: times;"> </span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="font-size: medium; font-weight: 400; margin: 0cm;"><span style="font-family: times;">I don't know this for certain, but highly likely this is connected to the raise of social media and the ease at which art can be shared in those platforms.</span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="font-size: medium; font-weight: 400; margin: 0cm;"><span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="font-size: medium; font-weight: 400; margin: 0cm;"><span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span></p></h3><h3 style="text-align: left;"></h3><h2 style="text-align: left;"><b><span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: 13.5pt;"><u>What is the plan ahead?</u></span></b></h2><div><b><span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: 13.5pt;"><br /></span></b></div><p class="MsoNormal" style="font-size: medium; font-weight: 400; margin: 0cm;"><span style="font-family: times;">So, the question I asked at the beginning was: is this the end of Gimnir’s Brush? The miniature that you see is from the Spanish Brand <a href="https://lastsword.com/en/" target="_blank"><span style="color: #ffa400;"><b>LastSword Miniatures</b></span></a>. Just before I continue please bear in mind that I am not sponsored in any kind of way by them.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">When I was contacted for this commission I was quite nervous about the possible quality of the model and the quality loss due to printing. <p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US">It was 2001 and something huge was about to
happen, the release of the Lord of the Rings: The fellowship of the Ring. As a
teenager with a prior interest in Fantasy I absolutely loved the first movie.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US">Another 3 years passed, now 2008, <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I remember meeting my friend and sleeping over
at his. The conversations flowed and he started describing how he used to play
something called Warhammer Fantasy. </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US">A description of the key features of the
main races of the old world followed, and then we played a very simple game
over a desk…wizards throwing fire bolts!? Heroes performing, well…heroic
deeds!? Skeletons fighting!? Necromancers resurrecting skeletons!? Skeletons
resurrecting skeletons!? <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I was all in. </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US">Not even in my wildest dreams I would have
imagined where this hobby would take my imagination in the coming years.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US">After diving-in in the rich lore of the old
Warhammer world I decided that Dwarfs were my army. Move forwards a couple of
months consuming all the lore I could get my hands on while continuing purchasing
boxes of miniatures and discovering hobby products.</span></p><h2 style="text-align: left;"><span lang="EN-US">Collecting Warhammer can certainly get out of control</span></h2>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US">Fast track another year while Games
Workshop continued promoting their products and they did their job, I was

<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US">Soon I started collecting many other
armies: fantasy orc and goblins, dark elves ,40k eldar ,40k dark eldars…at the end of the day it is good to paint new things...righttttttt? It took
me probably one further year to feel completely overwhelmed by the amount of
plastic and white metal I got myself into. </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US">I had so many miniatures that the simple
action of choosing what to paint next became a challenge on itself.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US">I needed to reassess what I was doing as I
felt absolutely overwhelmed by the task I set myself(also known as painting all the miniatures that I owned) , it was simply too big of a task to get tackled…with good reason: It would take me over a decade to
paint the first 2.000 points of my Fantasy dwarf army.</span></p>
<h2 style="text-align: left;"><span lang="EN-US">Setting a road map for army building</span></h2>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US">The key take away from the above is that
building a Warhammer army can be a big commitment both time and budget wise. It
has taken me approx 12 years to build roughly 2.000 pts of Warhammer Fantasy
Dwarfs. I can see the appeal of Age of Sigmar, with smaller bands and less overwhelming forces...but nothing can compare to a rank and file army!</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US">I always loved the lore and esthetic of the
orcs and goblins army and after careful consideration I got to the conclusion
that now that the core of my Dwarf army is ready I was up for the challenge of
a second army. </span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US">The reasons why I wanted to go for an Orcs & Goblins army are the

<p class="MsoNormal">It is now 2020; almost 12 years have passed

<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US">If I make some quick numbers assuming that

you buy a model, its value will go down automatically. Let’s say you bought a
box of space marines in a Games Workshop store and a couple of months have
passed…now that the rush is over and the models don’t seem to you as sexy as
they used to, you decide to sell the kit on eBay-If you didn’t open the box you
may be lucky if you get 80% of the money you paid originally. This is due to
mainly stores offering discounts online for unopened boxes as part of their
deal with GW and the fact that GW will always try to entice you to buy their
latest product.</span></p>

early 2015 I made a list of miniatures that I had in stock. I placed everything

in my possession.</p>
<p class="MsoListBullet" style="mso-list: none; tab-stops: 36.0pt; text-align: left;"><span lang="EN-US">I
then made a little estimate of how long would it take me to paint each

hammer…500 models…5.000 hours, I don’t even want to count how much money…<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoListBullet" style="mso-list: none; tab-stops: 36.0pt; text-align: left;"><span lang="EN-US">Let’s
put this into context: If I painted everyday 1h WITHOUT EXCEPTION (that means
Monday to Sunday every-single-day-of-the-year) for the next 15 years and I

be the case: <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>life happens, work demands
more of your attention than expected, kids, studies… I knew that new models
would be released and that the plastic crack addict in me would need them….15

had to design a strategy to get myself outside of this situation; to develop a

<p style="margin: 0cm; vertical-align: baseline;"><o:p><span style="font-family: arial;"> </span></o:p></p>
<p style="margin: 0cm; vertical-align: baseline;"><span style="font-family: arial;">Covid-19
has had an impact in the world as we haven’t seen before, and of course it
affected me during this time. I found myself isolated with not a lot of people
to share the love for the hobby with. After my friend told me that he got these
miniatures I offered him to develop the concept of this unit and bring it to life as a shared effort. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p style="margin: 0cm; vertical-align: baseline;"><o:p><span style="font-family: arial;"> </span></o:p></p>
<p style="margin: 0cm; vertical-align: baseline;"><span style="font-family: arial;">The
idea of doing a project together is great and the way I planned to execute is
that I will suggest a Concept to help him release his imagination: My friend is
not a very imaginative person, he struggles to try new things and usually gets
stuck trying new concepts, colour schemes or new techniques in his miniatures. He usually follows the paint schemes displayed in the boxarts displays in the boxes. This is something normal, specially when starting in the hobby-the fear of failing trying something new.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p style="margin: 0cm; vertical-align: baseline;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></p><p style="margin: 0cm; vertical-align: baseline;"><span style="font-family: arial;">Sharing this project will help him breaking the fear of trying new things, will teach him new skills and above all, two friends will have the chance of sharing their passion for the hobby and have a great time doing so! 😉</span></p>
<p style="margin: 0cm; vertical-align: baseline;"><o:p><span style="font-family: arial;"> </span></o:p></p>
<h3 style="margin: 0cm; text-align: left; vertical-align: baseline;"><span style="font-family: arial;">THE
CONCEPT</span></h3><div><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div>
<p style="margin: 0cm; vertical-align: baseline;"><span style="font-family: arial;">These
miniatures are valued an small fortune each one of them, so for the unit I want
to implement both a display and the capacity of playing with them. For that
reason I will suggest using a display plinth with removable bases to fit the
need.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p style="margin: 0cm; vertical-align: baseline;"><o:p><span style="font-family: arial;"> </span></o:p></p>
<p style="margin: 0cm; vertical-align: baseline;"><span style="font-family: arial;">To
enhance the display and ensure that all the miniatures are well displayed we
have 2 options, either spread them on a flat surface allowing separation
between models so they can be clearly seen or…..displaying them on a slope.
This is not the first time that I do this, you can see examples of this display
design <a href="http://gimnir.blogspot.com/2016/04/black-orcs-orcos-negros.html" target="_blank"><span style="color: #ffa400;"><b>Here </b></span></a>and <a href="http://gimnir.blogspot.com/2015/01/dwarf-longbeards-enanos-barbaslargas_19.html" target="_blank"><span style="color: #ffa400;"><b>Here</b></span></a>. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p style="margin: 0cm; vertical-align: baseline;"><o:p><span style="font-family: arial;"> </span></o:p></p>
<p style="margin: 0cm; vertical-align: baseline;"><span style="font-family: arial;">Now
is time to build some background and history to these bad boys. In my mind,
these sturdy warriors are going to battle , they have been called to aid one of
the empire Generals in the region and to do so they are moving through one of the
Middle Mountains mountain passes.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

My dwarf rangers are finally finished!!! this make me incredibly happy..so much work going onto them.<br />
<br />
For the unit I tried to keep to the "theme" of my army, that is my dwarf Throng reconquering a fallen dwarf fortress from the orcs and goblins hands.<br />
<br />
For this reason I tried to include details like the orc skulls here and there and some ancestor's statues fallen on the ground.<br />
<br />
I thought that it would be super cool to include some animal friends as the rangers way of communicating any possible theats to the main throng. You will be able to see some crows painted in a really subtle scheme trying not to distract too much attention from the main stars of this scene.<br />
<br />
Hope you like them, and as always I will always welcome any of your comments!<br />

<br />
Some WIP going on with my dwarf army...looks like this year will be the year of the DWARF.<br />
<br />
These miniatures by <span style="color: orange;"><a href="https://en.avatars-of-war.com/collections/dwarfs/products/dwarf-rangers?variant=28945310580841" target="_blank"><b>Avatars of War</b></a> </span>are a delight to paint. If you don't know who Felix Paniagua is then please take some time to check his range of miniatures. Felix Paniagua sculpted some of the <a href="http://www.coolminiornot.com/252425?browseid=9549259" target="_blank"><span style="color: orange;"><b>most iconic dwarfs</b></span> </a>from the former Warhammer Fantasy universe.<br />
<br />
In my honest opinion these miniatures are the best range of dwarf rangers in the 28mm range market.<br />
<br />
For the unit I always had in mind a unit of rangers patrolling the forest near the dwarf fortress. That is why there are some orc skulls here and there. These bad boys are clearing the scum from their territory one orc at a time.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
3 months with no WIP pictures on the blog...shame on me!!!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Here you can see my take on the Abyssal Warlord bust by<a href="https://scale75.com/" target="_blank"> <span style="color: orange;"><b>Scale 75</b></span></a>. This miniature is a must for anybody that is interested on understanding volumes. The bust is massive and will give you plenty of room to experiment with pretty much anything you want to try.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This time I wanted to experiment on <a href="http://gimnir.blogspot.com/2019/07/scale-75-abyssal-bust-setting-goals.html" target="_blank">SPECIFIC POINTS</a> ...As you can tell I failed miserably in some of the points(I do not think I achieved a white painted like plate armour) and achieved a just OK result in some others, but guess what!? This is the whole point of this, trying different things, learning something new and having fun in the way.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

Work in progress for the abyssal warlord. As I <a href="http://gimnir.blogspot.com/2019/07/scale-75-abyssal-bust-setting-goals.html" target="_blank"><b><span style="color: orange;">mentioned</span></b> </a>in the openning post for this bad boy, I wanted to go go for a white armour style.</div>

Not too sure if I am getting where I wanted but at least is some progress, and hey, where is the fun if there is no learning!!</div>
